ISLAMABAD: International Women’s Day is being celebrated all over the world today including, in Pakistan. The aim is to pay tribute to the social, political and economic struggles of women.
International Women’s Day will pay tribute to the brave women who fought for their rights, highlighting the efforts of thousands of organizations around the world for the social, political and economic advancement of women for which rallies and events have been organized.
Events in this regard have also been organized in Pakistan. Walks, seminars and discussions have been organized by civil society organizations to highlight the issues and challenges facing women. International Women’s Day is a public holiday in various countries of the world, including Russia, Vietnam, China and Bulgaria. This day is a symbol of women’s “struggle”.
In 1908, 15,000 working women protested in New York City against pay rises, the right to vote, and long working hours, and raised their voices for their rights. They were brutally beaten by the police, but the women continued their movement against forced labor.
As a result of the constant struggle and everlasting sacrifices of women, the first World Conference of Women was held in Copenhagen in 1910. About 100 women from more than 17 countries participated in it. The conference decided to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
