Jan 31, 2022: Pakistan has strongly condemned the firing of missiles at the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by Houthi rebels from Al-Jawf, Yemen, the Foreign Office said in a statement on Monday.

“It is commendable that the missile was successfully intercepted by the UAE air defense system, which prevented the loss of innocent lives.”

Pakistan’s foreign offic called the Houthi attacks a “grave violation of international law and a serious threat to regional peace and security” and called for an “immediate end”. The statement further said that Pakistan reiterates its solidarity with the brotherly people and government of the United Arab Emirates.

“Pakistan reaffirms its solidarity with the brotherly people and government of the United Arab Emirates,” it added.

A senior Emirati official described the attacks as “useless” provocations aimed at safeguarding national security and sovereignty. “People who test the UAE are mistaken,” official Anwar Gargash said in a Twitter post.

The UAE Ministry of Defense said the missile was stopped at 20 minutes past midnight and its wreckage landed on an uninhabited area. He did not say whether the target was Abu Dhabi or Dubai. This was while the Israeli president was visiting Abu Dhabi, where he discussed security and bilateral relations with Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi.

The Houthis, who have repeatedly fired missiles and drones at Saudi Arabia, have warned that they will continue to target the UAE until it stops “intervening” in Yemen.
