Pakistan, Qatar trade volume increases by 63% in 2018

ISLAMABAD, Nov 28 (APP):The volume of bilateral trade between Pakistan and Qatar has increased from US$1.59 billion (5.8 billion Qatari Riyals) to US $ 2.61 billion (9.5 billion Qatari Riyals) during the year 2018, projecting 63 per cent growth compared to 2017.

The growth in the bilateral trade was acknowledged during a recent meeting between Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development (OPHRD), Sayed Zulfikar Bukhari, and Second Vice Chairman of Qatar Chamber, Rashid-bin-Hammad Al-Athba held in Qatar, a press release said here Thursday.

During the meeting, a Pakistani delegation led by Zulfikar Bukhari discussed trade and economic relations between the two countries and contemplated the ways of enhancing about laborers’ affairs.

Al-Athba noted that Pakistan “is among Qatar’s important trade partners” and said Qatar-Pakistan bilateral trade grew by 63 per cent from 5.8 billion Qatari Riyals in 2017 to 9.5 billion Qatari Riyals last year. He showed his willingness to extend all possible support to Pakistan in the field of trade and economics.

He assured the delegation about making concrete efforts to protect the rights of the workers and underlined the need for importing more skilled and qualified manpower from Pakistan especially for FIFA 2022 event.

Zulfiqar Bukhari said: “Qatar and Pakistan are linked by deep and fraternal relations.” He lauded Qatar’s decision in 2015 to recruit 100,000 Pakistanis. The SAPM also discussed the possibility of establishing Qatar Visa Centers in Lahore and Peshawar so as to strengthen and increase its role.

Bukhari also held a meeting with prominent Qatari businessmen and top executives at Qatar Chamber headquarters. During the meeting both sides discussed ways of boosting cooperation, especially in the field of labour affairs and private investments in both the countries.

Currently, Zulfi Bukhari is currently on a three-day tour to Doha, Qatar where he is meeting with Qatar Officials to promote tourism and investment in Pakistan, besides discussing labor-related issues.

Earlier, Zulfikar Bukhari visited Asian town Labor camp in Industrial Area at Doha, Qatar to interact with Pakistani workforce there.

Zulfiqar Bukhari interacted with the workers and reviewed their lodging, dining and recreational facilities to get an overall picture of the provisions being offered to the laborers.

The workers apprised the SAPM about their issues on which Zulfi Bukhari assured them of all possible help from the government particularly from the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis.
