Pakistan Railways to resume train service from May 20

The Government of Pakistan (GoP) announced that Pakistan Railways would resume train services from May 20 amid coronavirus pandemic.

According to sources of Baaghi TV, Prime Minister Imran Khan will take important decisions in a special meeting today. Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed will also brief the Prime Minister on preparations made for the restoration of train service.

While talking to media in Rawalpindi earlier, Sheikh Rasheed said that the railway department is not subordinate to the provinces, it is subordinate to me after Prime Minister Imran Khan.

“I can decide to run the train myself but I am waiting for Imran Khan’s decision. After contacting him, I will decide whether to run the train on Tuesday or Wednesday,” he said.

The federal minister added if train operations do not resume in the next two days, railways authorities will have to apologise to the people. “We have to give pensions and salaries to people before Eid.”

He said that social distancing guidelines will be strictly followed. “The railway staff has been issued directions to strictly follow SOPs. Vending owners have also been told to take strict care of keeping their stalls cleans.”

Referring to precautionary measures against the contagious coronavirus, Rasheed had said that trains have already been disinfected and briefing to the staff members regarding the issued SOPs had also been given.
