Sept 20, 2021: Yesterday, Pakistan delivered another consignment of relief supplies to Afghanistan to ensure continued humanitarian assistance to the war-torn country.

At least 17 trucks loaded with food items were handed over to the Afghan authorities by the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) through the Torkham border, Pakistan’s local media reported.

The latest tranche of humanitarian aid is part of a move by the Pakistani government to provide aid to the neighboring country. The 300 tonnes of food items include 65 tonnes of sugar, three tonnes of pulses, 190 tonnes of flour, 11 tonnes of cooking oil and 31 tonnes of rice.

Pakistan’s ambassador to Kabul Mansoor Ahmad Khan also shared the progress on his official handle. The Consul General in Jalalabad Abidullah received 13 trucks of food items from the Pak-Afghan Cooperation Forum(PACF) for delivery to various Afghan provinces.

Khan also shared a press release from the Pakistani embassy in Kabul stating that 13 trucks had reached Afghanistan and four more would arrive via Torkham in the coming days.

Meanwhile, a simple gathering was also organized at Torkham border in which PACF chairman Habibullah Khan Khattak, Afghan representative Maulvi Mubarez besides administrative and security officials participated.

Briefing the media at the Torkham border, PACF Chairman Habibullah Khan Khattak said: “Afghans are our Muslim brothers and neighbours and we have centuries-old relations with them.”

He stated that the 40-year-long war in Afghanistan ruined the economy, agriculture and administrative infrastructure of the country and the sudden withdrawal of international aid agencies put the entire population at risk.

Khattak maintained that last year’s drought also added to the miseries of Afghan people who were facing a humanitarian crisis. The situation can result in a humanitarian catastrophe if immediate and effective steps are not taken, he added.

Addressing the ceremony, the PACF chairman described Afghans as Pakistan’s Muslim brothers and neighbors with whom they have centuries-old ties.

He added that the 40-year-long war in Afghanistan destroyed the country’s economy, agriculture and administrative infrastructure, and the sudden withdrawal of international aid agencies endangered the entire population.
