Feb 7, 2022: Pakistan has proposed an ambitious plan to build a semiconductor zone with the help of China, make the country self-sufficient in modern equipment and open new avenues of development.

This was stated by Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry in an interview. He said that during the visit of Prime Minister Imran Khan, they discussed the transfer of semiconductor industry to Pakistan and the role of this technology is very important not only for Pakistan but also for China.

“We want Chinese tech companies to come to Pakistan and make Pakistan a hub of semiconductors manufacturing”, the minister added.

Fawad further said that there is a huge field of science and technology where the two countries can cooperate.  He said that bilateral cooperation in the field of healthcare equipment had increased which was also very important and in the first few months of Covid 19 they were importing everything related to this sector but now Pakistan is a big exporter.

He hoped that after the visit of Prime Minister Imran Khan, many Chinese technology companies would come to Pakistan as semiconductors are a core element of every technology which would help in bringing value addition in local manufacturing products.

It is noteworthy that during his visit, the Prime Minister held a series of meetings with leaders of leading Chinese technology companies, and the two sides discussed issues related to and collaborate for software development, information and communication technology, medical diagnostics and other related fields.
