Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has called on the United Nations to take immediate notice of the anti-Islamic statement. Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi further said that the irresponsible statements of the French President have added fuel to the fire. He added that he will suggest March 15th to be recognized, as the International Day Against Islamophobia, and that civilized countries should respect the feelings of Muslim community. At the OIC Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Niger, I will present a resolution, it is time that there should be a collective decision on this issue. Earlier, President Dr. Arif Alvi called for the abolition of blasphemous practices, such as denouncing the Holocaust as a crime, and calling for its change.

In a message on the social networking site Twitter, the President said that extremists benefit when such heinous acts are allowed in the guise of freedom of expression. Denial of the Holocaust is a crime in most of Europe, and yet such hypocritical laws must be changed if insistence is allowed on the public display of insulting cartoons.

Earlier, Pakistan strongly condemned the Islamophobia campaign in the name of freedom of expression. The Foreign Office says that Pakistan strongly condemns the blasphemous actions of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) and the desecration of the Holy Quran in some developed countries. We are further appalled by the disturbing statements made by some politicians that under the guise of freedom of expression, they justify such heinous acts and link terrorism to Islam only for political gain.
