India: Two shop owners and staff landed in legal trouble in Goa after their LED signboards flashed a pro-Pakistan slogan. The shops were located in the busy market in the North Goa district. Police officials on Wednesday said they have detained nine persons after probing the matter.
Pro-Pakistan slogans were displayed on the signboards of shops at Baga (in Calangute area) and Arpora (Anjuna) beach villages, creating outrage in the market. The LED attached to the top of the shop displayed “Pakistan Zindabad” slogans on Tuesday evening.
A few marketgoers noticed the objectionable text of the digital signboards and filmed them on their phones. They shared the video clips on social media, seeking police action against the shopowners.
Four persons were detained by the Calangute police and five by the Anjuna police, he added.
Officials have disconnected the LED boards and registered a case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita section 152 (endangering sovereignty, unity and integrity of India) and provisions of the Information Technology Act, the Goa Police said.
