Pakistanis will be brought back from abroad before Eid: Moeed Yousuf

Lahore, 11th May: Due to the pandemic crisis and lockdown around the world, many Pakistanis got stranded outside their homeland. With the Eid approaching these ex-pats want to return to their country to celebrate and be with their families. 

The government of Pakistan is making its best efforts to bring them back safely. According to the report of Baaghi TV, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Moeed Yousuf has said that Pakistanis are being brought safely from abroad.

Moeed Yousuf said that the policy has been changed today with the consultation of the provinces, Pakistanis coming from abroad will be tested immediately. More Pakistanis will be brought back home before Eid with our new policy on testing laboratories.

Moeed Yousuf further said that Sialkot airport is being restored and Pakistanis have to be repatriated. It is our responsibility to bring back Pakistanis from 22 countries. We also intend to bring back Pakistanis from Canada, USA and other European countries.

Moeed Yousuf further said that most of the Pakistanis are in the Gulf countries and more than 10,700 Pakistanis will be being repatriated till May 21.

A comprehensive, coordinated plan has been drawn up for the repatriation of Pakistanis stranded abroad in the crisis of coronavirus, with the joint efforts of the Ministries of National Security, Foreign Affairs, Aviation and Overseas Pakistan. Efforts are being made to repatriate survivors, those with overdue or limited visas.

Thousands of Pakistanis from 38 countries, including the Gulf, the United Kingdom, Australia and Malaysia, arrived in their homeland despite lockdowns and travel restrictions.

Despite the cancellation of flights on March 21, 2,000 Pakistanis were initially repatriated in the first week, then gradually increasing to 6,000 to 7,000 every week. International airports are closed, flights are suspended, yet more Pakistani nationals are being brought in from other countries.

On the instructions of the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan, special measures have been taken for the repatriation of Pakistanis stranded abroad. The Government of Pakistan, and in particular Prime Minister Imran Khan, is personally monitoring the situation.

PIA staff is playing a leading role in this difficult situation despite the threat of the deadly virus. With the efforts of Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan, special flights have been made possible for Pakistanis wishing to return home.
