A wide squad of prominent cricketers, both long and limited, has been selected for the tour of England. The reason for this is that according to the SOPs prepared to deal with the corona virus, all the players leave for England at the same time and then return.

Haider Ali had secured a place in the emerging category of Central Contract for the season 2020-21 due to his excellent performance in the season 2019-20. Haider Ali scored 317 runs in the series against South Africa’s under-19 cricket team in June, becoming the second highest run-scorer for Pakistan. He was the fifth best batsman in the Emerging Teams Asia Cup played in Bangladesh. He scored 218 runs in the event.

Representing Peshawar Zalmi in the HBL Pakistan Super League, he scored 239 runs in 9 matches with a strike rate of over 158.

Apart from Haider Ali, spinner Kashif Bhatti is also awaiting his debut in the 29-member squad. He was part of the squad announced against Australia and Sri Lanka but did not make the final XI. He was not included in the potential squad for the Rawalpindi Test against Bangladesh. Meanwhile, fast bowler Sohail Khan has returned to the national squad. He played his ninth and final Test match in 2016 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia.

Apart from them, Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Hafeez, Wahab Riaz, Khushdal Shah, Fahim Ashraf, Imran Khan and Fawad Alam have also been made part of the squad.

The selectors have included Bilal Asif, Mohammad Nawaz, Musa Khan and Imran Butt in the reserve players for the tour. These four reserve players have been kept as a backup in case of any player’s positive test report before leaving for England.

Misbah-ul-Haq has clarified that long-term cricket has been the priority of the selectors during the selection of the squad as Pakistan has to play Test cricket in the next two months. Will be after the matches. The chief selector of the national cricket team said that our players have not participated in any competitive cricket since March while the host team will play a series against West Indies before Pakistan so this series against England will not be easy.

“We have to take part in as many training sessions as possible before the first test to prepare,” he said. Misbah-ul-Haq said that the players have been selected keeping in view the future. He wants to benefit from the vast experience of young cricketers, Younis Khan and Mushtaq Ahmed. He said that the return of Sohail Khan would further strengthen the fast bowling department of the national cricket team. He last took five or more wickets twice in 2016 against England. He said that according to the selectors, Sohail Khan bowled far better than his figures in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2019-20.
