Pandemic likely to last two years: Study suggests

A study by the experts on the pandemic states that COVID-19 is likely to last as long as two years or until one-third of the population gets immune to it.

According to the experts, because of its ability to spread from people who don’t appear to be ill, the virus may be hard to control than Influenza. The people may be at their most infectious before showing the symptoms.

The experts suggest that the countries may ease down their lockdowns and start reopening their businesses and activities, yet the virus may likely continue in waves that could last till 2022.

A report has been written by CIDRAP director Michael Osterholm and medical director Kristen Moore, Tulane University public health historian John Barry, and Marc Lipsitch, an epidemiologist at the Harvard School of Public Health state that, “Risk communication messaging from government officials should incorporate the concept that this pandemic will not be over soon and that people need to be prepared for possible periodic resurgences of disease over the next two years.”

Scientists and researchers are rushing to develop the vaccine for COVID-19 to be available in small quantities as early as this year.
