PEMRA bans recorded/live speeches of Nawaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has banned the broadcasting of speeches/interviews/public addresses of ‘absconders and/or proclaimed offenders’ including Mian Nawaz Sharif.

According to media reports, PEMRA has issued a statement regarding the ban on the speeches of the fugitive criminals in which it has been stated that the speeches and interviews of the fugitive criminals are banned from being broadcasted on the media.

The PEMRA statement clarified that there is also a ban on publishing material related to possible outcomes of pending cases.

It may be recalled that today the Accountability Court Islamabad has issued an order to foreclose on vehicles and bank accounts including Nawaz Sharif’s non-appearance in the Tosha Khana reference. Earlier, the Islamabad High Court had also issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Nawaz Sharif and directed the government to implement the court order from the British High Commission.

On the other hand, the government has decided to write a letter to the British government once again for Nawaz Sharif’s repatriation. In this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) have been assigned an important task.

It may be recalled that a day ago, a meeting of the Federal Cabinet was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Imran Khan in which it was decided in principle to bring Nawaz Sharif back home in any case.
