PEMRA takes action against local channel
PEMRA took big action against a local channel who runs news in the name of entertainment.
According to the report of Baaghi TV, PEMRA has issued an order to Neo TV to immediately shut down programs based on illegal news and current affairs and to run approved content in the name of “entertainment”.
In the order issued by PEMRA, Neo TV has been stopped from airing news and current affairs based programs. Neo TV had challenged PEMRA orders in Islamabad High Court but the Court upheld PEMRA orders.

According to PEMRA, Neo TV was given several opportunities to do program approved content related to entertainment and to close down news and current affairs. However, Neo TV channels did not take any significant steps and continued to violate PEMRA rules.
PEMRA has ordered Neo TV to shut down news and run entertainment only, giving it a last chance. In addition, the channel’s FPC will have to be sent within seven days. In case of non-compliance, PEMRA will take legal action.
In addition, PEMRA has also imposed a fine of Rs. 1 million on Neo TV for violating PEMRA orders.
