Petition to bring Koh-i-Noor diamond from UK, the court gives an important direction

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has reportedly heard a petition to bring back the Koh-i-Noor diamond from the United Kingdom (UK). 

According to reports, the court has directed the Office High Court to file the case for early hearing. Mr. Justice Shahid Waheed heard the miscellaneous application of Barrister Javed Iqbal.

The petitioner argued that the Koh-i-Noor diamond is the property of the  Government of Pakistan and was given to the British government by the former rulers on political grounds. The petitioner further stated that the government of Pakistan should be ordered to bring back this diamond.

According to media reports, Koh-i-Noor is one of the largest diamonds in the world, measuring 105 carats, which is on display in the Tower of London as the UK’s royal ornament. This diamond adorned the Maharaja Ranjit Singh, who died in 1839. The Sikhs were defeated in the Sikh-British War in 1846. This diamond was then presented to the British.
