Lahore, 9th July: Pfizer vaccine pushes for the third dose as Delta variant of coronavirus pandemic drives global outbreaks.

According to reports, on Thursday, Pfizer and BioNTech announced that they would seek authorization for the third dose of their COVID-19 vaccine to boost its efficacy.

The decision has been taken after the Delta variant caused devastating outbreaks in Asia, Africa and cases rose again in Europe and the United States.

Delta variant is the most infectious strain of the coronavirus since the start of the global pandemic in December 2019. It originated in India months ago but has quickly spread to other countries accelerating outbreaks.

Pakistan to Receive 13 million Vaccine Doses from Pfizer

Pfizer said that they expect the third dose of their vaccine will perform better against the Delta strain and they will be asking for authorization in the United States, Europe and other countries in the coming weeks.

Initial data collected from the ongoing trial showed that the third shot of the Pfizer vaccine will push antibody levels five to ten times higher against the original coronavirus strain and the Beta variant as compared to the first two doses alone.

Meanwhile, World Health Organization has warned that the world is at a perilous point after the official death toll surpassed four million.
