Philippines: Black box in military plane crash recovered #Baaghi

July 6, 2021: Military investigators on Tuesday found the black box of a military transport plane that crashed in the town of Patti Kul, 1,000 kilometers south of the capital Manila, on Tuesday. Sixty-two people have been killed in the country’s worst military air disaster. The chief of staff of the Philippine Armed Forces, Ciriloto Sobejna, said troops cordoned off the area within a one-kilometer radius of the crash site in a search operation.

“The area has been restricted so that the evidence collected can be fragmented,” Sobejana told the DPA. “It’s hard to guess what really happened … it’s good that the black box has been found and we can hear the last conversation between the pilots and the crew,” he added. The pilot could not escape the crash. The biggest clue to what went wrong will come from the black box.

Lockheed C130 had 96 passengers on board. A recent military graduate, Abu Sayyaf, left for Jolo Island to assist in the uprising against the terrorist group. Of the 96 people on board, 49 died on the ground along with three civilians. Another 47 soldiers and four civilians on the ground were injured, some in critical condition. The death toll rose to 52 after two soldiers were killed on Monday.

Witnesses on the ground told conflicting accounts. “I spoke to the survivors and they said the plane bounced two or three times and crashed,” the army chief of staff, Sobejana, told Reuters. He tried because he wanted to take the plane, but he was too late. The right wing hit a tree. ” Eyewitnesses on the ground said part of the landing gear did not come out, while others said the plane approached the ground very quickly.

Sobhijana had earlier disagreed on the accounts, saying no one jumped from the plane before it crashed and burst into flames. The large number of survivors can be attributed to the fact that the front of the fuselage of the aircraft was set on impact and those who did not faint in the crash seized the opportunity to escape from the wreckage. Military spokesman Edgard Arevalo said the plane was in “very good condition” and had 11,000 flight hours left to recover.
