PIA: First passenger flight touched down Melbourne

Lahore: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) continues its gigantic operation to bring back stranded Pakistani citizens from different countries.

In one such destination, a PIA flight took off from Allama Iqbal International Airport on Friday for Melbourne, Australia. PIA flight landed in Melbourne for the first time in history.

“This is the first time in the history of PIA that a flight is being operated to Melbourne,” said spokesman for national carrier.

According to sources, a Boeing 777-200LR on flight PK 8962 repatriated more than 300 Australians to their homeland from Lahore. PIA’s special flight PK 8963 will reach Lahore from Melbourne on Sunday carrying more than 300 stranded Pakistanis hoping to come back to their country.

Aviation ministry causes loss of millions to Pakistan

Passengers expressed special gratitude to the Government of Pakistan and PIA and wished that the national carrier would start direct flights soon. Many Pakistanis are looking forward to this facility.

Currently,  Pakistanis have to go through many intermediate transit points for travelling to/from Australia.

This flight is not currently listed for public sale on the PIA website, however, Pakistani nationals currently in Australia on visit or temporary visas who wish to travel home should contact the High Commission for Pakistan in Canberra by email (dhm@pakistan.org.au) to register their interest.
