For the first time in the history of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and Pakistan, six flights have landed at the Skardu airport in a single day.
According to the details, Skardu which is considered to be a remote area, received only five flights per week until last year. However, as per the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan, Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan and PIA, the number of flights have been increased to the northern area, a step to promote tourism in the country.
According to details, Skardu airport is now handling more flights than most of the major airports of the country as twelve flights were handled on July 24, 2021 (today). Flights arrived and departed from Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Sialkot and Faisalabad.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) PIA Air Marshal Arshad Malik on the occasion extended special thanks to the Minister of Aviation, Prime Minister of Pakistan and Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).
CEO PIA said that the northern areas of Pakistan are considered the most beautiful areas in the world. The time has come to open these areas to the whole of Pakistan and the world. PIA will play its full role as a flagship airline in this regard, he added.
