PIA vindicates the allegations by Transparency International
Transparency International Pakistan (TIP) pointed out the violation of Public Procurement Rules 2004 in award of renovation contract of Roosevelt hotel New York USA and Scribe hotel Paris France worth over US 25 million as well as irregular leasing out of both hotels by Najib Sami MD PIA.
Yesterday, Baaghi TV posted a story regarding the violation indicated by the TIP against Pakistan International Airlines Investment Limited (PIAIL).
In a letter to Chairman PIA, TIP head in Pakistan said that PIAIL is a subsidiary of Pakistan International Airlines Corporation (PIAC) and it is mandatory for PIAIL to perform similarly as PIA is performing. Since Najib Sami is appointed as MD of PIAIL about ten years ago, PIAIL has been violating most of the Public Sector Companies (Corporate Governance) Rules, 2013.
No action Taken after Transparency International warns Chairman PIA of irregularities
After the story being posted on Baaghi TV, we were contacted by PIA officials which stated that these were allegations rather than complaints. However, the matter was taken care of on April 1, when PIAIL responded with claims with relevant documents, called out these allegations fake, concocted and baseless.
On April 9, Vice Chairman TIP, Justice (R) Dr Ghous Muhammad wrote a letter. In which he stated that,” I have given consideration to the factual and legal aspects of the matter.” He later said that the reply submitted by PIAIL was positive, plausible and the annexed documents compliment the statement of PIAIL.
As per the letter, he further claimed that it was merely an attempt to malign the name of institution and nothing more than that.
Notably, TIP in a letter second his statement and verified his claim. The Vice Chairman Transparency International overruled the complaint filed against PIAIL. He was quoted saying, “In my considered opinion, no further action on the complaint is required and it has been filed.”
