The Review Board of Lahore High Court (LHC) has rejected Punjab Home Department’s plea of extending the detention of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan’s (TLP) chief Saad Rizvi.

According to the details, Saad Rizvi was brought to LHC on Friday under strict police security where he was made to stand before the Second Board.

The Punjab Home Department requested the review board to extend Saad Rizvi’s detention, upon which the board comprising Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmed Khan, Justice Alia Neelam and Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan held a closed-room hearing.

The review board rejected the home department’s plea for extension of the review period after the hearing and orders were issued on July 10 to release Allama Saad Hussain Rizvi.

After the hearing, Saad Rizvi’s lawyer, Burhan Muazzam Malik, stated that the detention is still a few days from now. On the question of a journalist, his lawyer stated that a decision on filing bail in other cases against Saad Rizvi will be taken later.

Allama Saad Rizvi was placed under house arrest by the LHC in April 2012 after Saad Rizvi’s violent protest movements.
