Pakistan’s PM Imran Khan warns of ‘civil war’ in Afghanistan

July 16, 2021: PM Imran Khan on Friday assured his Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang that Pakistan would spare no effort to conduct a “full investigation” into the Kohistan bus incident, which claimed the lives of nine Chinese nationals. 

“He [the prime minister] assured that no effort would be spared in conducting a full investigation into the incident,” the prime minister’s office said in a telephone call between the two prime ministers. During the call, Imran assured Lee that the safety of Chinese citizens, workers, projects and institutions in Pakistan is “the government’s top priority”.

The Prime Minister further expressed his heartfelt condolences on the loss of precious lives of Chinese citizens. The Prime Minister further said that the people of Pakistan share the grief and pain of the bereaved families.

Imran also stressed that the government of Pakistan was providing the best possible medical assistance to the injured Chinese nationals. Prime Minister Imran Khan reiterated that Pakistan and China have an iron-clad friendship that has withstood tensions over time. Any hostile forces will not be allowed to harm the fraternal relations between Pakistan and China. ”

On Thursday, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry attempted to demystify ambiguity around a deadly bus tragedy involving Chinese engineers a day after a frenzied media guessing game on the possible causes of the fatal crash.

At least 13 people were killed and more than two dozen others were injured when nine when a shuttle bus carrying them plunged into a deep ravine after an explosion on Wednesday morning. The bus was carrying Chinese and Pakistani workers to a tunnel site under construction at the Dasu Hydropower Project in the remote Kohistan District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.

“Preliminary investigations into the Dasu incident have now confirmed traces of explosives,” Fawad Chaudhry wrote on his verified Twitter handle on Thursday.

“The prime minister [Imran Khan] is personally overseeing all developments. In this regard, the government is in close coordination with the Chinese embassy. “We are committed to fighting the scourge of terrorism together,” he added.
