July 28, 2021: PM Imran Khan alleged his earlier interview was taken out of context and that he holds solely the rapists responsible for rape.

During a recent appearance on PBSO New hour, Prime Minister Imran Khan clarified his position on the rising number of sex crimes in Pakistan, stressing that he never blamed the victims. He said his comments had been deliberately taken out of context and that he blamed only rape for the rape. The Prime Minister also clarified his comments on the ‘veil’ and assured that he was referring to everyone, not just women or their clothes.

In a previous interview with HBO, the host asked, “In an interview last month, you said that a large part of the responsibility for the rising number of rapes in Pakistan lies with women. Do you really think so?” Do you believe that? “

To this, Khan said, “Look, Judy, the perpetrator is only responsible for it. So let’s be clear about it.” He added, “It doesn’t matter. “What a woman wears or how provocative she is, the person who commits the abuse is responsible. The victim is never responsible. My comments were taken out of context. We are just against Pakistani society and children.” “I were talking about the rising number of sexual crimes. And when I talked about the “veil,” which is a part of Islam, I was talking to everyone.”

“The veil is not limited to clothing or women. It also applies to men,” he said. “I was talking about bringing down strife in society. My comments were deliberately taken out of context because I know the interview I gave. I would never say that the victim is to blame.

Afterwards, the host asked not only an Islamophobic question that could restore the stereotype that Islam supports violence against women. She asked, “Do you believe that the importance given to Islam in your country complicates your ability to take a strong stand against violence against women in your country?”

On this, Khan clarified once again, “Absolutely not, Islam gives dignity and respect to women. After traveling around the world, I have come to know that women are treated with more dignity and respect in Muslim countries. Even in Pakistan, the incidence of rape is less than in the West. Yes, we have our problems, we have our cultural problems, and every nation has it. But the solution is cultural evolution and It can be taken out of education, but as far as women’s dignity is concerned, I can say that this society gives more dignity and respect to women.
