Islamabad: According to reports, Prime Minister Imran Khan will make a one-day visit on Monday to Gwadar to review the various on-going development projects in the city.

Government sources stated that the PM will partake in the foundation-laying ceremonies of the projects ongoing in the city. He will be escorted by federal ministers on this trip, where he is expected to oversee the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) for a 1.2 billion gallon water supply project and a desalination plant.

It was also stated that the premier will also watch over a grant agreement for a solar generator for Baluchistan from China.

The prime minister, in May, stated that the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects held the highest priority and expressed firm commitment towards their timely completion. He stated that this would open up large economic opportunities for development not only within the region but beyond that as well.

According to the PM’s office, these statements were spoken during a meeting in Islamabad between the prime minister and China’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Nong Rong. The meeting also touched upon various other matters, such as the Pakistan-China bilateral relations, the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two nations, vaccine cooperation, and high-level bilateral exchanges.

PM Khan stated, “The CPEC, as pioneering projects of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), has made important and major progress in infrastructure, energy, ports, and industrial parks,”

Mr. Nong Rong, the Chinese Ambassador, stated that Beijing was interested in working with Pakistan for greater CPEC development, also extending it to nearby nations and improving the people’s well-being, as it played an increasing role in regional connectivity and became more economically integrated.
