PM Khan addresses WEF Strategy Dialogue on Pakistan

In his address to the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Country Strategy Dialogue (CSD) on Pakistan, Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan said that money laundering is a big problem for developing countries. After 17 years, Pakistan’s current account deficit became surplus, said PM Khan.

According to details, PM Imran Khan while addressing the WEF CSD on Pakistan said that the whole world was affected due to coronavirus, however now Pakistan’s economy is stable and moving in the right direction. The working class was taken care of during the coronavirus as we followed the Smart Lockdown policy.

PM Khan, talking about the Ehsaaas Programme, said that 15 million families were given cash handouts and it really saved Pakistan from the worst effects of lockdowns.

“Because the people were with us, they complied with our measures we came out of it better than any other country,” he said, adding: “We saved our economy and we save people from dying from the virus.”

PM Imran Khan said today’s Pakistan is all about wealth creation, where everyone will be welcomed to come and invest to industrialize our country. He said it will definitly help lift poor people out of poverty.

Imran Khan said his government believes in facilitating and encouraging public-private partnership to improve governance and strengthen economy. He said Pakistan is a huge market of 220 million people with majority young population.

However, the premier said that he was “worried” as the second peak had hit Pakistan, and the people were not taking it seriously. “We don’t know how long will this wave last.”

The prime minister said that when his government came into power, for a year and a half, they brought down the deficits and introduced policies to boost the economy.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that after facing various economic challenges, Pakistan’s economy is now stable and moving in the right direction and the country’s economy is getting stronger with the passage of time.

Addressing the ‘Pakistan Strategy Dialogue’ under the auspices of the World Economic Forum (WEF), Prime Minister Imran Khan said that we are concerned about the increase in corona cases in Pakistan but Pakistan cannot afford lockdowns in businesses and factories.

“We are taking steps to ensure that the economy is not affected. Unlike the lockdown, we have banned unnecessary public gatherings and identified areas affected by Corona and introduced smart lockdown,” he said.

Imran Khan said that Pakistan wants investors to have facilities here and get profit, Pakistan would welcome investment in automobile industry.

On the Afghan peace process, he said that with the help of Pakistan, the US and the Taliban came to the negotiating table, he hoped that peace would come to Afghanistan which would also benefit the surrounding areas, US President Donald Trump took good steps in Afghanistan and Hopefully, newly elected US President Joe Biden will not back down from good deeds in Afghanistan.

The Prime Minister said that China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a link between the two countries. Central Asian countries can benefit from Gwadar by promoting connectivity. Through CPEC, Pakistan will have access to China’s major market, while the railways are also being upgraded under the project.
