PM Khan and Bill Gates talk on important matters
Lahore, 28th April: Prime Minister Imran Khan and US IT magnate, Co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Bill Gates, have reportedly discussed the steps necessary for COVID-19 response, climate change and others.
According to reports, PM Khan held a telephonic conversation with Bill Gates, in which they discussed matters pertinent to Pakistan’s response to coronavirus, polio eradication and looming climate change. Among others, the two engaged in conversation pertaining to health and developmental issues.
Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed his appreciation for the work undertaken by the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation against poverty, coronavirus, and existing global inequalities.
The Pakistani premier reportedly recalled a letter to Gates on climate change which focused on Pakistan’s own initiatives including the 10 Billion Tree Tsunami drive. In response to this, Bill Gates acknowledged Pakistan’s commitment to combating climate change.
Highlighting the food system, increasingly vulnerable due to the onslaught of climate change, he stressed the need for global leaders to unite under prioritized investments in agricultural research.
Moreover, Gates suggested that Pakistan raise awareness to rally support in favor of the farmers’ community. Additionally, PM Khan underscored the importance of timely delivery of the COVID-19 vaccines to low-income countries.
The two reportedly agreed on the need to prevent the further spread of COVID-19, polio, and other diseases which may be prevented through vaccines.
Prime Minister Khan further affirmed the government’s efforts to eradicate polio by initiating a country-wide anti-police drive with the aim to vaccinate millions of children across Pakistan.
The Prime Minister expressed appreciation for the work of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for fighting poverty, combating COVID-19 pandemic and inequalities around the world.
