Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has agreed to consult the Leader of the Opposition in the matter of appointment of Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) following the suggestions of federal ministers.

According to media outlets, a meeting chaired by Federal Ministers, and their assistants and advisors was held under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister Imran Khan in which various national issues and political situation were discussed. On the suggestions of Federal Ministers Fawad Chaudhry, Asad Umar, Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Barrister Farogh Naseem, the Prime Minister agreed to consult with Leader of the Opposition, Shahbaz Sharif, on the appointment of NAB chairman.

According to sources, the majority members present at the meeting advised the Prime Minister to consult the Chairman NAB and the opposition regarding amendments to the rules.

Reports have claimed that it was decided in the meeting that Justice (Retd.) Javed Iqbal will continue his work as usual till the appointment of a new chairman NAB, while the name of the current chairman NAB will also be considered for the new appointment in a meeting to be held with the opposition leader. PM Khan directed that such amendments be made in the NAB Act which would not become controversial and would improve the credibility of accountability.

As per the records, a meeting on the appointment of NAB chairman will be held next Tuesday, in which the final report on amendments to NAB rules will be presented by the law minister and the attorney general.
