PM Khan rejects summary for hike in electricity, gas prices

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has rejected the summary of increase in gas and electricty prices in the country.

According to the details, PM Khan said that electricity and gas prices will not be increased in any case however, incentives should be given to farmers to increase the yield of wheat crops.

During a meeting of the Federal Cabinet held under the chairmanship of PM Imran Khan a detailed briefing was given on the prices of wheat, sugar and essential commodities. At the meeting, the cabinet members expressed concern over the increase in sugar and wheat prices, and agreed on the proposal to increase the official price of wheat.

The Prime Minister expressed frustration over the non-immediate import of wheat and said that why was the decision of Economic Co-ordination Committee (ECC) was not implemented immediately? There is no room for such mistakes in the future.

The Prime Minister said that incentives should be given to the farmers so that the wheat crop would be higher. The provincial governments should further increase the release of wheat. The government will ensure abundant availability of wheat and sugar and a crackdown should be carried out against stockists. A schedule should be made for the arrival of imported wheat in the country.

In the meeting, the PM rejected the summary of increase in gas prices by saying that the electricity and gas prices will not increase in any case.
