PM Presides over Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme Review Meeting

According to Baaghi TV reports, a meeting presided over by Prime Minister Imran Khan, reviewed the progress on the government’s measures to promote the field of construction of houses for low-income households, and the construction industry in general.

In the meeting, Chairman Naya Pakistan Housing Authority, Lt. Gen (retd) Anwar Ali Haider, and senior officials were present, while Governor State Bank Reza Baqir, exFinance Minister Shaukat Tareen, Arif Habib, Mudassir Khan, Aqeel Kareem Dedi, Hasan Bakhshi, and various others participated via video link.

Chairman Naya Pakistan Housing Authority said that a think tank had been formulated for the promotion of the construction industry and taking forward the Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme in the situation created by the corona virus pandemic, composed of experts from the construction industry. This think tank has made recommendations for the promotion of the industry in general, and for the arrangement of financing of homes for low-income families in particular.

Regarding concessions for the construction industry, it was said that there has been a significant reduction in the fees for transfer of property and registration, and it has been applied in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Apart from this, developers and builders will be facilitated by the Naya Pakistan Housing Authority so that they can easily benefit from the concessions offered by the government to the construction industry.

In the meeting there was a detailed analysis of the recommendations made by the think tank formed for the promotion of the construction industry.

While addressing the meeting, the Prime Minister said that the Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme is the current government’s most important project for the flow of the economy, which will promote several associated industries. He said that under the corona situation, the government has paid special attention to the promotion of the construction industry so that while the industry prospers and the provision of homes for low-income families ensured, it will also create job opportunities for labourers and poor people. He said that the government is providing support of Rs 30 billion for the Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme so that the project for providing a roof to low-income families can go forward.

The Prime Minister directed that the recommendations of the think tank should be realised with consultation with commercial banks, so that the arrangement of financial resources for the construction of houses under the scheme can be ensured.

The Prime Minister directed that under the Naya Pakistan Housing Authority, a special cell composed of representatives from the State Bank, concerned ministries, provincial governments, and concerned provincial departments, should be formed, so that while improving coordination, the resolution of all construction related issues can be fast-tracked.
