‘Pakistan Can Become a Regional Rail Hub,’ says PM

PM Shehbaz emphasised that the development of regional connectivity—particularly with Central Asia—presents major prospects for economic growth. He said Pakistan Railways’ proactive expansion strategy could position the country as a central hub for trade and transportation across the region.

The prime minister highlighted the importance of restoring the Islamabad–Tehran–Istanbul (ITI) Rail Service, calling it a key initiative that would “usher in a new era of economic activity and regional integration.”

Major Rail Projects Reviewed

Shehbaz Sharif reiterated the federal government’s commitment to completing key infrastructure projects, including the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) and the Thar Coal Railway Link, which aims to connect the massive Thar coal reserves with the national rail network.
