ISLAMABAD – October 9, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday welcomed the newly agreed Gaza ceasefire, paying homage to the Palestinian people for enduring immense suffering and calling the agreement a hopeful step toward lasting peace. He praised U.S. mediation, particularly the role of President Donald Trump, and urged full compliance with the deal’s provisions.

Sharif said that the Palestinians “have made unparalleled sacrifices” and that such atrocities must never recur. He described the ceasefire accord as an historic opportunity for peace in the Middle East, commending the efforts of Qatar, Egypt and Turkey in facilitating dialogue. He also reiterated Pakistan’s firm support for the Palestinian cause and demanded accountability for actions that undermined earlier progress.

In his post on X, the prime minister underscored that Pakistan would continue to stand with Palestine, pushing for peace, security, and dignity in line with UN resolutions and the aspirations of the Palestinian people. He also condemned recent provocations at Al-Aqsa Mosque and called for the world to hold occupying powers to account.

Diplomatic observers note that the ceasefire declaration has drawn global backing, with leaders from many Muslim and Western nations urging strict implementation. The agreement reportedly involves the phased withdrawal of Israel’s forces, a prisoner exchange, the safe return of hostages, and open corridors for humanitarian aid.

Pakistan has also maintained active diplomacy following the developments. Islamabad and Riyadh recently held talks on securing a durable ceasefire in Gaza, with both countries reaffirming their support for the two-state solution and pledging close coordination among Muslim nations.

While many have hailed the agreement as a breakthrough, skepticism remains over how faithfully the terms will be upheld on the ground. Parties will now face the challenge of turning diplomatic promise into tangible relief and security for the war-torn people of Gaza.
