PML-N Conditionally Agrees to Support No-Confidence Motion

The PML-N has said that it is ready to support the no-confidence motion to overthrow the government if the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) makes a workable proposal.

Reports state the PML-N Secretary General Ahsan Iqbal said, “We will support the move to topple the PTI government. But for they (PPP) have to make a workable proposal.”

Addressing a news conference along with party spokesperson Maryam Aurangzeb, Ahsan Iqbal said that if the PPP chairman presented a successful no-confidence motion against the Senate, the PML-N would do the same in the Punjab Assembly where the PPP has only six seats.

It may be recalled that the PPP has been demanding in-house change from the PML-N in Punjab and at the same time has assured that several members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will also support it.

Referring to the opposition’s target, especially the PML-N, by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Ahsan Iqbal said that the NAB chairman was “dancing to the tune of the government” because the government has some objectionable videos of him.

He asked the NAB chairman to ask General (retd) Asim Saleem Bajwa how he had made millions of dollars in assets from his “salary”.

He further said that similarly the Kartarpur Corridor project was constructed at a cost of Rs. 17 billion without seeking permission from Central Development Working Party but NAB does not dare to object to it as it involves “danda” whereas last 3 years Allegations are being made against citizens.

Ahsan Iqbal said that billions of rupees were corrupted in the Peshawar Metro Bus project but the anti-corruption agency has turned a blind eye to it.

Responding to a question, he said that his party had made a big mistake by not prosecuting Imran Khan and the others in connection with the attack on PTV during the 2014 sit-in. “The attackers should be punished severely,” he said.

The PML-N leader said that Imran Khan lived in a 1 Kanal rented house but paid more income tax than a Prime Minister who lived in a palace of more than 300 Kanals. PTI workers needed to explain this irregularity to the public, he said.

Calling the Prime Minister the head of the mafia, Ahsan Iqbal further said that reports of corruption in various state institutions have been submitted to the National Assembly but the government does not issue them so the corruption is not exposed.
