Islamabad: China has taken the wind right out of the sails of the Aristotle of Noon League by commencing work on the Western route of CPEC. According to reports, China’s action has rendered the allegations levelled by the Aristotle of Noon League, Ahsan Iqbal, as groundless.

On the other side, the Federal Minister for Communications, Murad Saeed, has said that work on the western route of the symbol of Pakistan-China friendship, the CPEC (China Pakistan Economic Corridor) has been started. While addressing a press conference in Islamabad he said that work on CPEC is going full steam ahead and new projects are starting. The demand for the western route had been made on the part of the smaller provinces, he said. He said that approval had been given for the DI Khan-Zhob road, as part of the western route. The tender for the Hyderabad-Sukkur motorway will be issued this year. We will build 1800 kilometres of road without burdening the National Treasury, and areas of the GT Road shall be linked with the motorway.

Murad Saeed said that there is lesser spending on roads as compared to previous governments, but more roads than before are being built, through public-private partnership. Priority has bene given to projects in Sindh, South Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said that in the current year’s PSDP (Public Sector Development Programme) 57 projects have been included. On the Havelian, Thakot, Multan, and Sukkur route, work was completed on a priority basis. Now the motorway will also be built from Peshawar to DI Khan.

It needs to be remembered that two days ago while criticising the Budget 2020-2021 presented by the federal government, the Aristotle of Noon League, Ahsan Iqbal, sarcastically said about the fund allocation to CPEC, that while work on the western route hasn’t even started, it will take 197 years at this rate.

Only two days later his allegations have been rubbished by China by the start of work, and his claims declared childish.
