Police interrogates Mithun Chakraborty over use of ‘inciteful’ movie dialogues
India: Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Bollywood star Mithun Chakraborty is being interrogated by the Kolkata Police on Wednesday. The BJP leader has joined the probe virtually in view of COVID-19 pandemic.
The Bollywood superstar of yesteryears is facing a case of using ‘inciteful’ language during campaigning for the recently-concluded Assembly Elections in West Bengal.
It may be recalled that Mithun had joined the BJP in the run-up to polls. According to the Kolkata Police, the actor-turned-politician had used a few of his movie dialogues during campaigning. As per the FIR, the complainant has alleged that these dialogues were ‘inciteful’ in nature.
The complaint in the case was lodged by a person from the film fraternity at Maniktala. The complaint was later converted into an FIR.
Mithun had later approached the Calcutta High Court seeking to get the FIR quashed. The HC had, however, asked the actor to cooperate with the police and join the probe virtually due to COVID-19.
