Polling continues in National and Provincial Assembly constituencies, PML-N accused of rigging

According to Baaghi TV reports, polling is underway for by-elections in two constituencies of the National and Provincial Assemblies.

A tough contest is expected between PML-N and PTI in NA-75 Daska and PP-51 Gujranwala. The Punjab Assembly seat PP-51 was vacated due to the death of PML-N MPA Shaukat Manzoor Cheema and the PML-N has nominated Shaukat Manzoor Cheema’s widow, Begum Talat Manzoor Cheema. Meanwhile, the PTI has fielded Chaudhry Muhammad Yusuf. The Jamaat-e-Islami candidate is Nasir Mahmood. The PML-N had won the seat by a margin of more than 31,000 votes during the general elections.

The National Assembly seat in Sialkot was vacated due to the death of NA-75 PML-N MNA Syed Iftikharul Hassan Shah alias Syed Zaheer Shah. This time PML-N has fielded Syeda Noshin Iftikhar, daughter of late MNA, while Ali Asjad Malhi is the PTI nominee. The provincial assembly seat in Nowshera district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was vacated due to the death of PK-63 PTI MPA Mian Jamsheduddin Kakakhel. Mian Ikhtiar Wali Khan of PML-N is the joint candidate of PDM while Mian Umar Kakakhel of PTI, Mian Wajahatullah of ANP and Maulana Sanaullah of Tehreek-e-Labaik are in the fray.

By-polls are also being held today in NA-45 Kurram One constituency of Kurram district. There are 27 candidates in the fray in the constituency. A tough contest is expected between PTI’s Fakhrazman, Independent candidate Syed Jamal and JUI’s Jamil Chamkani. The seat was vacated due to the death of JUI-F MNA Munir Khan Orakzai.

Strict security arrangements have been made inside and outside the polling stations, PML-N workers have protested in PP-51 during the by-elections in Gujranwala. PML-N leader Ataullah Tarar has alleged that the police have detained our workers. Four people, including District Information Secretary Mian Mudassir, have been arrested.

In Daska, PML-N candidate Noshin Iftikhar visited Government Degree College polling station. Noshin Iftikhar accused the ballot boxes of being open and rigged. Meanwhile, bitter words were exchanged between the candidate and the staff.

In NA-45, NA-75, PK-63 and PP-51 by-elections, the Election Commission has set up a control room for complaints related to polling in the constituencies. Complaints will be received in the Election Commission control room till 6 pm.
