PPP, PML-N split over Fazlur Rehman's appointment

ISLAMABAD: The opposition alliance splits over the appointment of Maulana Fazlur Rehman as the head of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).

According to the details, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman, demanded that the leadership of the alliance should be given to all parties in turn. Jamiat ulema e Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has been appointed as the head of the opposition alliance body.

In this regard, the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) claims that the decision was taken unanimously, but according to sources, the PPP chairman has vehemently opposed the decision.

In a video link meeting of the PDM on Saturday, Bilawal Bhutto strongly opposed the appointment of Fazlur Rehman and demanded that the term of his leadership be fixed and that the leadership of the alliance be given to all parties in turn.

It was further stated that the video link meeting of Pakistan Democratic Movement was held in Islamabad. The meeting was attended by PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Balochistan National Party’s chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal and other party leaders participated through video link. During the meeting, the political situation in the country and the implementation of decisions taken in the All Parties Conference (APC) were reviewed.

The PML-N nominated Maulana Fazlur Rehman for the post of PDM chief, after which his formal appointment was announced. A meeting of the PDM’s committee has been convened on October 5, moreover the committee will also finalize PDM’s protest movement program.
