July 26, 2021: President Arif Ali on Monday asked the Pakistani people to be serious about the rapid rise in Covid 19 cases.

The recent peak is mostly associated with the spread of the delta and should be implemented with SOPs to reduce the spread of the virus. In the last 24 hours, at least 3,752 new cases were registered in the country, an increase of more than 900 cases from a day earlier.

President Alvi said on Twitter, “Alarming. 3752 new Covid patients yesterday. Get serious people of Pakistan,” President Alvi said on Twitter.

The president said he had been “expecting and warning” people about the lack of compliance and negligence in markets, weddings and bazaars. He added that people should follow the government’s SOPs to stop the spread of the deadly virus. In another tweet from his personal account, the president called on the public to vaccinate and “save our friends, relatives and our nation.”

“The important test is to rise to the occasion,” he remarked.

On Sunday, Sindh reported the highest number of corona virus cases in a year as the result of the highly contagious Delta variant of the disease, especially in its capital Karachi, with the virus still spreading in the province.

According to Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, 2,343 cases were reported in the last 24 hours in the province, bringing the number to 367,075. Out of a total of 2,343 cases, Karachi reported 1,932, a worrying 24.82% positive rate in the port city.

The death toll in the country has exceeded 23,000.
