The Parliamentary Reporters’ Association staged a sit-in inside Gate No. 1 of the parliament wherein the PRA said that the Press Gallery cards were not issued to the journalists covering the Parliament.

The PRA further said that press gallery cards were issued to people other than journalists and journalists were barred from covering important events.

On the other hand, the main entrance of the Parliament House has been sealed and the road leading to the Prime Minister’s House is being used for the transportation of guests.

In this regard, PPP leader and Senator Sherry Rehman said that for the first time in the history of the country, the press gallery of the parliament has been closed off for journalists.

She said that the press gallery of the parliament was never closed even under martial law. “On what basis is the ban on journalists going to the press gallery being imposed? What is the threat of disaster to the government from journalists?” she asked. She said that the Speaker condemned the decision of the National Assembly.
