Prime Minister will travel to Uzbekistan on a two-day visit

ISLAMABAD: According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prime Minister Imran Khan will go to Uzbekistan on Thursday (tomorrow) on the invitation of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for a two-day formal visit.

The ministry said in a statement issued Wednesday that the prime minister will be joined by a high-level delegation that includes Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and several cabinet officials, as well as a big number of senior businessmen.

The two leaders will discuss a wide variety of bilateral issues, with a particular focus on trade, economic cooperation, and connectivity, according to the statement.

The two presidents are also anticipated to exchange views on regional and international topics of mutual concern, as well as sign a number of agreements and memorandums of understanding aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in a variety of fields.

Imran will also speak at the inaugural Pakistan-Uzbekistan Business Forum, which will be attended by top business leaders from both nations.

On Wednesday, the two sides will conduct the sixth session of the Joint Inter-Governmental Commission and the inaugural session of the Joint Business Council in Tashkent, ahead of the prime minister’s arrival.

In addition, the prime minister will attend an international conference titled “Central and South Asia Regional Connectivity: Challenges and Opportunities.”

Ministers and high-ranking officials from Central and South Asia, as well as other major countries, international organizations, international financial institutions, think tanks, and academics, will attend the conference.

“Pakistan has deepened its engagement with Central Asia through its ‘Vision Central Asia’ policy, with a focus on five key strands — political, trade and investment, energy and connectivity, security, and defense, and people-to-people exchanges,” said the statement.
