Oct 14, 2021: The main accused in the case of gang-rape of an 18-year-old woman on the M-4 motorway in Gojra has been arrested.

Police said that the accused lured a young woman of Toba Tek Singh under the pretext of giving her a job in a shop, raped her in a car on the motorway and fled after throwing her at Faisalabad Interchange.

In the FIR, the girl’s aunt said that her 18-year-old niece got a message on her mobile phone for a job interview in Gojra. She said that when they reached there, the accused put the young woman in the car and took her away and raped her on the motorway.

The survivor has been medically examined and a DNA sample is being taken, police confirmed, adding that an operation has been launched to arrest the other suspects.

A Punjab police spokesman said the main accused in the gang-rape was being questioned while a search was on for other suspects. On September 9 last year, two men raped a woman on the motorway in the Gujjarpura area of Lahore. The men smashed the windscreen of a car parked on the motorway and pulled the woman and her children out, after which they cut a net around the road and took them all to nearby bushes and then raped the woman.

Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar and Inspector-General Rao Sardar Ali have taken notice of the gang-rape.

The CM and IG have both asked for a report from the Faisalabad RPO and ordered the immediate arrest of the suspects and stern legal action against them.

The IG said that justice should be ensured for the victim on a priority basis.
