The federal government has turned down a proposal of Pakistan Flour Mills Association to immediately ban the export of wheat despite 5% loss of wheat production in this season.
According to the reports of Baaghitv, PTI government has turned down the request of PFMA seeking ban on export of wheat. However, Government has turned down the request citing wheat stocks stored in country.
The Ministry of National Food Security and Research stressed the need for wheat export as the country has produced much stock in last decade and is surplus in wheat production. The ministry argued that available wheat, as reported by the provinces and Passco, was well above annual national requirement of around 25.84 million tons. It also stressed that the Punjab government and Passco were engaged in a smooth wheat procurement process.
