Public-Private Partnership Plan devised for Pakistan Steel Mills is Disastrous: CJP

ISLAMABAD, July 16 (Online Int’l): Chief Justice of PakistanJustice Gulzar Ahmad has remarked that the steel mills administration can not lay off all the employees. He further observed that the plan of public-private partnership worked out for the Pakistan Steel Mills is  sheer destruction.

The CJP gave these remarks while presiding over a 3-member bench of SC during the course of the hearing of case pertaining to the employees of Pakistan Steel Mills Thursday. The court has called a report about the steel mill from the federal government. The CJP remarked that more cleverness will create difficulties for the steel mills administration.

Additional Attorney General told the court cabinet has not decided to lay off all the employees. CJP observed if the employees are laid off this way then 5000 cases will be registered. The counsel for steel mills employees told the court Rs 40 billion will be required to lay off employees. The CJP remarked that the laid off employees should be got employed again.

The CJP while addressing the law officer remarked, “What the government is going to do will cause destruction.You are looking at this matter in a bad way. Why is the government not standing by the decision taken by it?”

Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan remarked, “Your plan is that 95 percent employees will be laid off and new employees will be appointed on contract. As many as 320 cases of steel mills employees are pending hearing in high courts and 29 cases in supreme court.”

The court while summoning a new report from the Pakistan Steel Mill adjourned the hearing of the case for four weeks due to the ailment of lawyer Kamran Murtaza.
