Punjab extends business hours of shopping malls, markets

The Punjab government has decided to extend the business hours of markets and shopping malls following the demand from the traders’ community ahead of Eid.

Punjab Minister for Industries and Trade, Mian Aslam Iqbal, formally announced the extension of business opening hours after the approval of Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar.

Mian Aslam Iqbal said all markets and shopping malls in the province will remain open till 10:00 pm from tomorrow (Friday).

He further said that the government has also reopened all shrines for visitors. The shrines will remain open for 24 hours, he added.

Punjab Govt allows public transport, reopening of shopping malls

Mian Aslam said that the government was holding negotiations with the transporters for the resumption of public transport at motorways.

It may be recalled that the federal government had announced further easing of the partial lockdown due to coronavirus from May 9, after which small businesses were allowed to open five days a week.

Subsequently, the Supreme Court of Pakistan issued an order that businesses should be opened on weekends and Sundays.

Now the Punjab government has also extended the duration of business till 10 pm. In all these cases, Sindh is the only province which has been consistently opposing the easing of lockdown. However, shopping malls have also been opened in Sindh on the orders of the Supreme Court.

According to a report by Baaghi TV, after the easing of the lockdown, the pandemic gained momentum in Pakistan. In 24 hours, around 2,200 patients have been diagnosed with coronavirus and 32 more lost their lives.

The total count of patients in Pakistan has crossed 48,000 and over 30 people died in one day, taking the death toll over 1,000.
