The Lahore Waste Management Company has developed a new financial model, according to which Rs 8.5 billion will be collected from the people of Lahore in the form of cleaning fees to reduce the financial pressure on the Punjab government.

After electricity, gas and water, now there will be a bill for sanitation. The Punjab government has decided to collect sanitation charges from door to door, new financial model of LWMC has been developed.

The government exchequer will be given a relief of Rs 8.5 billion annually by imposing a monthly burden on the people of Lahore due to inflation. The recovery will be through electricity bills. It is claimed that garbage will be picked up from houses in return.

Under the proposed new system, garbage will now be collected from consumers’ homes, in return for a monthly fee.

Under the new financial model, the LWMC will collect Rs 8.5 billion in cleaning fees from Lahore to ease the financial pressure on the Punjab government.

Sources said that with this move, the financial burden on the Punjab government will be reduced to only Rs 6 billion. At present, the Punjab government is paying Rs 14 billion to LWMC, collecting cleaning fees from consumers through electricity bills, a proposal to do so is also under consideration.
