Punjab Police Introduces App For Tracking & Recovering Stolen Mobiles

LAHORE: The Punjab police department has introduced a new smartphone application to prevent the theft and sale of mobile phones and recover them if they get stolen or snatched.

Punjab police issued smartphone software to aid in the prevention of mobile phone theft and sale, as well as the recovery of stolen devices. The e-Gadget Monitoring System was developed with help from the Punjab Information Technology Board.

Users of both Apple and Android phones can download the software. The app will debut in Lahore and, if successful, will be expanded to other cities. The Capital City Police Lahore developed the application — the e-Gadget Monitoring System — in collaboration with the Punjab Information Technology Board.

The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Investigations Lahore office hosted the launch of the pilot app. As the chief guest, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), BA Nasir, attended the opening ceremony.

Senior police officers, trade leaders, and media representatives attended the ceremony, including DIG Investigation Dr. Inaam Wahid, DIG Operations Waqas Nazeer, SSP Admin Mutazir Mehdi, SSP Investigations Zeeshan Asghar, SSP (CRO) Ahsan Saifullah.

How does it work?

The e-Gadget software will make it simple for traders in the mobile phone business to register. Shopkeepers will enter each phone’s IMEI number into the app so that authorities can search the database for stolen devices. CCPO Lahore dubbed the program a revolution, claiming that its proper implementation would reduce mobile theft by 60% to 70%.

He promised merchants that the program would help them protect their companies. If a phone is stolen, the police will be contacted immediately via the app, and an FIR will be uploaded immediately. The data on stolen mobile phones was not available online, according to the Lahore police chief, therefore stolen gadgets were being sold and purchased.

Nasir stated that if the app is successful in Lahore, it will be expanded to other locations. Mobile phone sales, repair, and software installation enterprises, according to DIG Dr. Inam Wahid, would keep the IMEI information for each phone on the app.

As a result, the police will have access to a database of stolen mobile phones, and thieves will be unable to sell the phone anywhere.
Customers will be able to check whether or not they are being sold a stolen device using the app.

Keeping track of stolen vehicles

Meanwhile, the Punjab police want all citizens to make sure that they are not purchasing a stolen vehicle when they buy a car. To ensure that the car is not stolen, citizens are recommended to inform the Punjab Police’s Police Khidmat Markaz (PKM).
