November 16, 2021: The Government of Punjab (GoP) has fixed the minimum age limit for early retirement of government employees. According to reports, the law has been changed in Punjab regarding the age of early retirement.

According to the details, Services & General Administration Department (S&GAD) has issued a notification stating that government employees will no longer be able to get early retirement before the age of 55.

Earlier, government employees could retire early after completing 25 years of service, however, now no one will get an early retirement before the age of 55, even if he/she has worked for 25 years.

It is pertinent to mention here that earlier, the practice of early retirement after completion of 25 years of service was very common in government-run departments. Government employees used to retire after working for 25 years to enjoy the post retirement perks and benefits ahead of time.

As a result, the government had to immediately fill the vacant positions which not only used to add on to the work load and slow down the process but at the same time caused a financial burden on the government. Therefore, to avoid this loss, the government has set a retirement age for government employees.
