Qatar set to host Web Summit in 2024
DOHA: Qatar’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) announces it will be hosting Web Summit, in 2024.
The Web Summit will be the first event of its kind to be organized in the Middle Eastern and African region and will be taking place between 4-7 March at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC), next year.
On Thursday, 6th April, the MCIT announced that Qatar will be hosting the Web Summit, the largest tech conference, which would bring together thousands of international entrepreneurs, investors, and next-generation leaders focused on “reshaping the world”.

Sharing the news on their official website, the MCIT said that in the next five years, Web Summit Qatar will pave way for “new opportunities to connect the tech world in growing ecosystems across the Middle East, Africa, and India”. This will be in addition to its pre-existing systems in the European, American (North & South), and Asian regions, respectively.
According to the MCIT, Qatar is thriving as a “fast-growing technology ecosystem” and has an “expanding start-up scene” supported by both the government and private sectors. As per the World Economic Forum (WEF)’s Global Competitiveness Report 2021, Qatar ranks 28th for its capacity for innovation, in comparison to other countries regionally.

According to the MCIT, the country invests heavily in “technology infrastructure” and focuses on “emerging technologies” including AI (artificial intelligence), cybersecurity, and blockchain.
Minister of Communication and Information Technology, HE Mr. Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai has expressed hope, saying: “Qatar looks forward to hosting thousands of innovative and future-shaping leaders and thinkers at Web Summit Qatar.”

Also mentioned on the website, are details related to the Summit based on which those in attendance would be able to explore “avenues for growing” businesses and/or experience.
Paddy Cosgrave, who founded the Web Summit said, “Web Summit Qatar will help connect a new generation of founders in the Middle East” to around the world and lead to the developments of an “already fast-growing tech scene“.
