Over half of Gaza’s population of 2.3 million has fled to Rafah to escape the fighting in other areas, packed into sprawling tent camps and United Nation-run shelters near the border. Egypt fears a mass influx of hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refugees who may never be allowed to return states Times of Israel.
Egypt upon the possibility of attack on Rifah stated it will threaten to suspend its peace treaty with Israel if it sends troops into Rafah, this will lead to closing supply route to the beleaguered territory. Rafah straddles the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt.

This developing situation can expend the Hamas-Israel war in yet another country. The trapped Palestinians fleeing from their country may be pushed into Sinai by Israel, forcing Egypt to handle over a million Palestinian refugees threatening their internal security and placing an economic burden on their exchequer.

Israel is already killing over a 100 people a day in air attacks on Rafah reports Al Jazeera. The site’s satellite images reveal that 22,000 people are crowded into each of Rafah’s 64sq km. The area is choking with refugees. This has led to spread of diseases leading to health concerns, particularly spread of Hepatitis A. Other diseases are scabies. Lack of proper toilets & showering facilities further worsening the condition.
