Rahul Dravid appointed as head coach of Indian cricket team

Rahul Sharad Dravid, the former Indian cricketer and Director of Cricket Operations at National Cricket Academy, Bengaluru, has been appointed as the head coach of the Indian cricket team.

The French news agency,  Agence France Presse (AFP) quoted local Indian media as saying on Saturday that Rahul Dravid would take over after the T20 World Cup.

The Times of India quoted the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official as saying that the former 48-year-old Indian batsman would be given a two-year contract. “Rahul Dravid’s former player Paras Mahabare will be appointed as the team’s bowling coach,” he said.

Rahul Dravid, popularly known as ‘Mr. Dependable’ and ‘The Wall’ among Indian cricket fans, was part of the Indian cricket team from 1996 to 2012. He has played 164 Tests and 344 ODIs for India. Royal Dravid is currently serving as the Director of the Indian Cricket Academy in the southern city of Bangalore. He has also coached many young players in the national cricket team at the moment.

According to the Times of India, “Rahul Dravid will assume his responsibilities after the T20 World Cup and before the team’s tour of New Zealand.” Ravi Shastri, the current coach of the Indian cricket team, has indicated that he will retire from his responsibilities after the T20 World Cup.
