For the time, since being a part of the collection for nearly fifty years, the Bleu Royal was part of the auction for sale. Founded in 1766 by James Christie, the auction house said in a statement: “This diamond is amongst the rarest to have been unearthed”.

According to Christie’s, only three fancy vivid blue diamonds above 10 carats have ever appeared in its 250-year auction history. First in 2012, in 2014, and in 2016. Christie’s confirmed that in 2016, it sold the 14.62-carat Oppenheimer Blue for more than $57 million.
