Recount of votes continues in NA-249 by-election

May 6, 2021: Recounting of votes is underway in NA-249 by-election in Karachi. Representatives of political parties and candidates are present in the RO office. Strict security arrangements have been made in the site area DRO office and a heavy contingent of police and Rangers is deployed inside and outside the college.

In the April 29 by-elections, PPP candidate Qadir Mandokhel was declared the winner. Miftah Ismail of PML N got 15,473 votes. The PML-N and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had rejected the election results. The recount was requested by PML-N candidate Miftah Ismail.

Talking to media in Karachi, PML-N leader Miftah Ismail said that he had a lead in 204 polling stations which ended, hopefully it will remain intact. Khushab is a rural area but we got Form 45 till one o’clock at night. Form 45 in 249 was given at 4 pm, hopefully this will be the solution. PPP candidate from NA-249 Qadir Mandokhel has said that the recount process should be completed as soon as possible. The PPP will also win in the recount. If there is any illegal action, they will challenge it.

It is to be noted that the Election Commission has decided on the request of PML-N leader Muftah Ismail for recount of votes in NA-249. The Election Commission has ordered recount of votes in NA-249 Karachi. Candidate Miftah Ismail’s application approved, ECP decides recount result on May 6.
